RICHARD UYER THUMITHO ELECTED AS THE PRESIDENT OF NORTH-KIVU FILMMAKERS FEDERATION OF D.R. CONGO

On 23rd February, Goma Town witnessed the elections held for selecting the new President and Coordinator of North-Kivu Filmmakers Federation of D.R. Congo.

The ceremony was enhanced by the presence of eminent delegates of Culture & Arts Ministry and 53 local directors. Mr. Richard Uyer Thumitho got undeniably elected as the President of the Corporation with a clear majority gaining 95% of the electors’ support and Mr. Minani Franck got elected as the Co-ordinator. Mr. Richard Uyer Thumitho, who was formerly acknowledged as the award winning Director of best documentary in the renowned All Lights India International Film Festival 2018, will be holding the position for a tenure of 2 years.

The candidates who won are entitled to responsibilities to upgrade the movie fraternity of Congo. Their goal of paramount being the unification of filmmakers and to take the role of key back support in supporting their production and promotion initiatives. Opening cinemas in Congo, which cease to exist anymore as majority got replaced by churches and nightclubs is another task in their list. The new president has resolved to be the bridging link between government and artists, between local and foreign filmmakers, with which arises a new future for Congo film industry to look forward to.
